Repairing a broken paddle blade
After recently breaking a blade in some big surf I made some enquiries on how to
replace a broken blade the lads from brookbanks gave me some good advice.
This repair was done on my lendal paddle
This is how I repaired it.
First I marked my blade collar or shaft and the blade moulding line with a Stanley knife so that I knew the exact angle too put my new blade back on at
Then I got a hot air gun and set it up on a table so that it couldn’t move, then holding the paddle over the hot air gun i rotated the blade joint over the top of it by
about two inches until it got hot and the blade become loose
Then with a bit of help from another person twist and pull apart,
The spigot will start to come out,
Once you get the spigot out get a file and file inside the paddle shaft cleaning all the old glue off.
Get some araldite and spread on the inside of the shaft and on the new blade spigot
Slowly push the spigot into the shaft making sure you line the
paddle up with your marks.
Then clean off the excess araldite,
Then place somewhere carefully too dry.
Over Twelve months on and my paddle blade is still going strong.
