Getting Back In The Boat:    .

You think beef jerky tastes great from the comforts of your boat, the taste of a frosty cerveza is almost spiritual while you’re kicked back waiting for the bite to return    .
Investigate these topics further as you have time    .
Mobile Phone and the Coastguard number    .
* Provision of necessary safety equipment    .
After all if you do lose your main paddle for whatever reason how would you get back to the beach if you didn’t have a spare and with possibly no one else to tow you in ?    .
The nature of being on a light boat means that you can’t apply that much pressure on your rod anyway    .
it needs to be a permanent blade knife not a folding one so that if you get in a tangle underwater or you need to cut your anchor rope quickly then you can quickly deploy your knife and cut yourself free its no good having to root in a pocket for it and then pull open a blade that would take to long it needs to be at hand attached to you preferably your pfd and of course be sharp     .
A short length of chain will increase its holding power considerably    .
.
Paddle mits (pogies) are excellent for keeping your hands warm when paddling, but they can be a bit cumbersome when you put your paddle down    .
As a result, they were caught with their waders down, so to speak    .
Wind and tide will influence your direction of travel whether you are paddling or drifting    .
Joining up with someone else especially someone with experience will however prove invaluable and there are plenty of willing helpers around    .
Anchor System For Kayaks    .
Drink and food    .
Hang on to it    .
Get your paddle with the kayak and ask the dealer for recommendations    .
Typically kayakers monitor channel 71 while private boaters monitor channels 69 and 72    .
The location of these will depend on your preferred method of fishing    .
.
Many rescues start in daylight, but extend into the hours of darkness    .
Proven to be a safe sport for those that have taken the time to learn the basic skills, kayaking can be a richly rewarding form of recreation    .
One of the unique dangers that we encounter that typical kayakers don’t are those surrounding fish hooks    .
When you take the bait:    .
First Aid    .
You’ll certainly experience tides of 3mph    .
Don’t rush the purchase or the fitting out of it    .
You will see from this topic that there is a link to a you tube video on kayak fishing where a rather portly American chap tests out the waders theory in his neighbours swimming pool (I was going to replicate the research myself and post my own video but my neighbour was very displeased with the idea stating his goldfish were currently spawning)    .
Small inshore flare kits are readily available from any local chandler supplies    .
That last factor is crucial in determining what you wear    .
Here is a list of some of the many items you will require to help maximise your safety    .
Humber Coastguard sent lifeboats and a helicopter to the rescue of a man who phoned his wife to say he had fallen in the water at Steetley Pier this afternoon after the concerned woman subsequently phoned the Coastguard    .
Velcro and magnets can be employed to keep your bits and bobs secure    .
If you happen to lose your balance and fall into the water this item of clothing will keep the water out and also greatly reduce the possibility of hypothermia    .
We could discuss kayak safety as it pertains to fishing for hours    .
As you can see, another mixed response    .
Tow Lines    .
You need to fit a trolley system in order to transfer the point of connection between anchor rope and kayak to the bows or stern, the bows is considered better    .
These could be used as a tackle box and secured to the kayak while fishing with elasticated straps    .
Like you, I fish when I can, but sometimes you have to pull the plug before you start    .
Stick to fleece, polyester and nylon and believe me in summer you will!    .
If he had not been wearing a lifejacket, or his mobile phone had sustained water damage this incident could have gone very differently, and reminds us all of the dangerous effect waders can have if you end up in the water    .
Elastic ties designed for stowing reefed sails are useful to secure rods and paddles to boat fixtures    .
Rod rest tops designed for carp and barbel anglers might be suitable for keeping your rod tip safe and you can lash the butt and reel to a cleat or handle    .
Anyway here is that video    .
The first part of safety lies with the paddler themselves    .
Most drysuits are also available with an under fleece suit which will keep you very warm and comfortable    .
Before you all start shouting just do me a favour    .

Being a Sea Angler myself and a kayak coach, I have noticed that many Anglers are now getting interested in this form of fishing, decide to go and buy the kayak and the gear but get no formal training on how to use the kayak or safety training    .
Planning your day can be the most important safety aspect you’ll have    .
Things do go wrong and sometimes there is very little you can do about it other than to minimise the risk, mitigate the circumstances and manage the incident, which could include calling for outside assistance    .
The anchor shown above is attached so that the first tie wrap will break and allow the anchor to be pulled from the other end to try and free it    .
This allows you to quickly and easily get your bearings    .
For a kayaker it proves to be even more of a challenge    .
Clothing as above to suit the conditions    .
Protein is good, salt is not    .

ALL the kit is of secondary importance compared to the initial decision of whether to launch or no    .
GPS will allow the precise logging of hundreds of routes    .
As would electrician’s tape for that matter    .
Breathable drysuits are the best choice as they will provide ease of movement, keep the wind out, allow perspiration caused through activity to disapate and provide a waterproof barrier    .
A kayak will give you access to areas that shore anglers cannot reach and boat anglers dare not go    .

Kayak Fishing Marks    .
It is ten times easier for two persons to load a kayak than one    .
A 13 foot kayak has a lot of windage and a lot of what I call pendulum effect    .

Proper kayak angling nutrition:    .
There are many aspects to safety and the equipment and clothing you will require    .
Paddling does leave you exposed t the elements and while you are active keeping warm is relatively easy, once you sit still the cold can seep in very quickly    .
But you probably need to get back to work, I do too    .
They are like King Stahlman’s Bail Bonds – I would rather always have them and not need them, than to need them, and    .

Kayak Fishing Safety    .
Consider a pair of neoprene gloves that you can paddle in and also put on to keep your fingers warmer when fishing    .
Wind is one of the kayakers most dangerous adversaries and can increase in velocity quickly, take control of your kayak and make the paddle difficult    .
Self-explanatory    .
