I’ve been looking at becoming a much more outdoors oriented person, mainly in the idea of camping and kayaking, but there are many items needed for survival outdoors, and survival kits seem to lay that out very well, but I was looking for the best available for a good price, I saw http://www.dickssportinggoods.com/product/index.jsp?productId=11193559&cp=4406646.4413993.4414966.4414983.4415073#green
It’s a survival kit backed my behr grylls but there were some bad reviews on it, just wanted some suggestions, even on things not totally relevant to survival, you could pipe in on cool and useful tools, tents, anything outdoorsy
also if there is anythign such as an extremely portable fishing tool, idk anything outdoors and survival based!
The survival kit you linked to is a piece of crap. As the other answer said, make your own.
When it comes to fishing, all you need is line and hooks. You can make sinkers out of rocks and floats out of sticks. Several limb lines will produce better for you than anything else. I suggest 20 to 35 pound test line and hooks ranging from size 6 to 1/0. Extra fishing line can be used for many other things besides fishing. You can string it between two trees and toss a large trash bag over it for an emergency tent or to keep your firewood dry. You can use it to make snares. You can use it to lash branches together for a shelter, etc.
Here is a good list to help you get started: http://marinsar.org/Training/24pack.htm
I think you will have better luck if you put it together yourself as opposed to buying a kit. Also, there is no need to carry anything you don’t need, but local sporting goods stores (REI) often offer classes to help you learn how to use things. REI stores and REI.com also offers articles and tips on how to buy gear.
Edit: no need to carry anything you don’t know how to use. Please do carry things you need. Sorry.
Just remembered the ten essentials and they are listed here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ten_Essentiā¦
